Instructor Statement:

Writing for the screen can be a tedious, isolating experience. I believe in creating an environment where writers can come together to learn, grow, and actually enjoy the process. Whatever your story, there is a place for it, and I want to give you the tools to take your idea and make it into a strong, authentic, exciting script. My focus is on powerful characters and underlying story over plot convention or premise. We will build stories organically, helping each other to see exciting possibilities that might have otherwise stayed hidden. Our classroom is a safe place for exploration and expression, where all ideas are welcome, all voices are embraced, and collaboration is valued over competition.

As a teacher, I want to give my students the knowledge I had to forage for in the wild. I approach the class both from an artistic point of view, as well as the practical realities of being a working writer. My mistakes can be your warnings, and my successes can be your guideposts. Above all, we will learn the rules to writing for TV so that - eventually - you will know how and when to break them.

There is a storyteller inside all of us. This class will teach you how to take your story and express it in this specific form, creating strong scripts that adhere to industry standards while remaining authentic and unique to your own experiences and truth.
