    Description of Fees

To fully support and help our international students succeed, UCLA Extension International Programs offers a variety of services throughout the duration of your studies, including:

    • Comprehensive immigration advising on F-1 status maintenance
    • Health insurance coverage
    • Access to UCLA campus facilities and resources
    • Receptions, networking, and other activities
    • Graduation celebration at Royce Hall
    • CPT and OPT application support (when eligible)

The International Program Fee is a fee charged to provide various support services to our international students, including:

    • Health insurance and assistance for the student
    • UCLA Bruincard (student ID card)
    • Library card
    • UCLA Recreation membership
    • Culturally-rich international student activities
    • Immersive international student orientation
    • Receptions, networking activities, and a graduation celebration for certificate students
    • Comprehensive immigration advising on F-1 status maintenance
    • CPT and OPT application support (when eligible)

The International Program Fee totals $4,500 for the first quarter of study and $3,500 for each subsequent quarter you continue to study with UCLA Extension.

The International Program Fee is charged in two phases: The Program Deposit and the Program Fee Balance.

Tuition is not included in the International Program Fee.

Two stages of the International Program Fee:

    • Stage 1: $500 non-refundable program deposit paid upon acceptance into the program upon submitting the Phase 2 application.
    • Stage 2: First Quarter: $4,000; Subsequent Quarters: $3,000 paid between 6-8 weeks before the program begins alongside the Phase 4 application.

A non-refundable deposit payment of $500 is charged after being accepted into the program by UCLA Extension International Programs and after the participant determines that they will proceed with their participation in the program.

This deposit payment will be applied toward the total program fee, leaving a balance of $4,000 (for the first quarter) or $3,000 (for the second quarter).

In the event that the participant withdraws from the program after paying the $500 deposit payment, they will automatically forfeit the $500 non-refundable deposit.

The program fee balance is due upon receipt of your welcome letter and must be received by UCLA Extension six weeks before the program start date.

Accepted payment methods are cash, check, credit card, or bank wire transfer.

Credit card payments are the fastest and easiest payment method.

Please note that the program fee may vary per quarter, and is subject to change at any time.

Fees for enrollment in individual courses are not included in the Program Fee and must be paid separately for each course.

Fees for one 4-unit course range from approximately $600 to $1,600.

You will need to be enrolled in 12 units of coursework each quarter to maintain your F-1 status.

The student's health insurance is included in the International Program Fees. Dependents of the student will need to purchase health insurance independently if they wish. It is strongly encouraged that dependents purchase health insurance coverage. UCLA Extension can provide information on enrolling dependents into the UCLA Extension plan.

    For students:

    • You are required to have health insurance for the duration of your studies.
    • Health insurance fees are included in the quarterly program fee.
    • To view policy details, visit the Relation Insurance Services website or call (877) 246-6997 to speak to a representative.
    • Under the insurance plan, you can use UCLA medical facilities and services. Coverage begins on the first day of the quarter and ends one day after the last day of the quarter.

    For students with dependents:

    • Dependent insurance is not included in the International Program Fee and must be purchased independently by the student.
    • Dependents are able to enroll in the Relation Insurance Services insurance plan noted above.
    • Although insurance is not required for dependents of UCLA Extension international students, it is highly encouraged, as health costs in the United States can be prohibitively expensive if needed.

UCLA Extension Certificate Programs do not include housing and living expenses. You and/or your sponsor must cover these expenses. Costs will vary based upon preference.

    Lean more about housing resources.

Some courses may involve special equipment, laboratory fees, special computer hardware or software, and/or other special materials not covered by your Certificate Program fees. In such cases, you may have to pay an additional fee to cover those expenses. You will also need to buy your own textbooks.

    Fees are subject to change.

General notice regarding International Program Fees:

UCLA Extension fees for international students enrolled in certificate programs are higher than fees for U.S. and California residents. The higher fees cover the costs of providing additional student services for international students. These higher fees are common for public institutions in the U.S. Fees for California residents are lower than fees for non-residents and international students because all California residents pay California State taxes and those tax dollars support the state universities. UCLA and other California State Universities are subsidized by these tax dollars paid by California residents.
