American Music and Popular Culture During World War II
Osher (50+). In this course, we explore swing music during World War II.
About this course:
Colorful patriotic media sustained American unity during the war, reflecting a somber yet pugnacious national mood. Entertainment was offered to the troops by so-called “All-Girl” swing orchestras while Armed Forces Radio produced media on an industrial scale. In this course, we explore swing music in propaganda broadcasting, zesty wartime song lyrics, the vast corps of enlisted entertainers, and American culture at war from 1941-45. This course will be recorded. Students will have access to videos for the duration of the course.Ready to start
