About this course:

Johann Sebastian Bach is one of the most important European composers in the history of classical music. However, he was not the only musician named Bach known in German lands. The Bach family is noted as one of the most important families of distinguished musicians in the 17th and 18th centuries. In this course, we investigate and listen to the music of many other composers in the illustrious Bach family. We begin with J.S. Bach’s older relatives who played an important part in shaping the music of the Baroque era, such as Johann Christoph Bach and others. Later, we explore how J.S. Bach’s children, such as C.P.E. Bach and J.C. Bach, gained their own fame and notoriety while playing an important role in establishing the foundations of the Galant style in the 18th century. This course will be recorded. Students will have access to videos for the duration of the course.
