The Music of Franz Liszt
Osher (50+). In this course, we listen to and analyze famous works by Franz Liszt.
About this course:
Franz Liszt was considered to be the greatest virtuoso pianist of the nineteenth century. He was known not only for his showmanship and display of technical bravura on his instrument, but also as a major innovator of the solo piano recital. Beyond his fame as a pianist, Liszt was an exceptionally important composer who drove some of the major innovations in harmony during the latter portion of the nineteenth century and shaped programmatic music, especially the genre of the orchestral tone poem. In this course, we explore some of Liszt’s contributions to classical music, from the virtuosic piano repertory to his masterful orchestral compositions. This course will be recorded. Students will have access to videos for the duration of the course.Ready to start
