About this course:

This class explores the boundaries between prose and poetry. We focus on character, setting, plot, point of view, word choice, figurative language, symbols, music, imagination, and memory to construct flash nonfiction, flash fiction, and prose poems. We attempt to discover the differences between a prose poem and flash prose, and utilize their intersections for a range of possibilities for style and subject. What elements are essential to a poem? To a memoir? To a story? How important is genre?
