What you can learn.

  • Describe scheduling approaches and distinguish among key concepts such as Critical
    Path Method versus Agile emerging practices, Predictive/Waterfall versus Rolling Wave
    and Hybrid trends, and adaptive methodologies versus tailoring considerations
  • Identify key scheduling components required to develop a project schedule with key
    milestones using basic planning tools such as a Gantt chart, network diagrams, or
    Burndown charts
  • Develop schedule by expanding WBS and decomposing work into activities, sequencing
    and estimating their duration using PERT analysis, top-down and analogous techniques,
    as well as bottom-up calculations
  • Identify dependencies and constraints among activities, manipulating leads and lags on
    critical path activities and optimizing schedule through crashing, smoothing and resource
    leveling techniques
  • Perform budget formation from the scope and schedule baselines considering risks and
    tradeoffs in planning, and learn the necessity of the contingency and management
    reserves as fall back tactics to preserve overall budget
  • Prepare project-funding using cost estimations from PERT analysis, top-down and
    analogous techniques, as well as bottom-up calculations, considering factors including
    cost units, levels of precision and accuracy
  • Utilize the Earned Value Management principles and apply analytical techniques to track
    actual costs incurred on the project, and compare to planned and earned values, reporting
    status, progress, as well as projections on future work in the project

This course along with others in the Project Management certificate will contribute to preparing students who are planning to take the PMP® Exam by PMI®.
