About this course:

This workshop features a two-weekend intensive immersion in the function of the Grip and Electric Department on a professional film set. Taught by top Hollywood gaffers and key grips, you will have the opportunity to work hands-on with the latest lighting and grip technology on an MBS Soundstage. Gain a full understanding of the role of gaffers and grips on a professional set by hauling cable, setting stands, running data, and setting lights. You will shape light by setting flags and selecting diffusion, and you will practice camera movement by setting dolly track and running a dolly. This workshop will provide a comprehensive overview of the right and left hands of the DP from the perspective of those key departments. Special emphasis will be placed on learning how to utilize and maximize your crew as a DP. This hands-on approach allows you to ask questions about the vital relationships between the DP and their close collaborators, the gaffer and the key grip.
