About this course:
The entertainment industry is recognizing that a diversity of voices is not only good practice, it also helps sell content. This seminar is designed to help content creators and producers develop creative and practical solutions to promote greater inclusivity in the entertainment industry. Although there is an ongoing effort to acknowledge and remove the race, gender and cultural inequalities in Hollywood, more opportunities need to be generated for both talent and those working behind the scenes – including the executives responsible for greenlighting content. Instruction first covers the historical context for understanding the current diversity landscape as it pertains to the television and film industries. The seminar then examines current diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, practices and initiatives to gain a better understanding of what works and what doesn't work in the industry. Students will also learn about the key challenges of creating and implementing DEI programs and projects with a view of creating stories that appeal to a greater variety of audiences.Winter 2021 Schedule
