Hello and welcome to my course. I’m looking forward to the class and working with you.

Let me start by telling you something about my background. I am a licensed clinical psychologist with a private practice, as well as being affiliated for the past 20 years with the Valley Trauma Center as a clinician and supervisor. This is a center for sexual assault survivors and their family members and friends, which provides individual therapy, family therapy, group therapy, prevention education, and training opportunities for master’s level students. In addition, I currently teach at California State University Northridge and Los Angeles City College as an adjunct faculty member in their Psychology departments. I teach a variety of lower and upper division courses ranging from Brain and Behavior to Child Development to Abnormal Psychology. My research interests have been in the areas of sexual assault prevention education, disordered eating behavior in men, cognitive abilities in students, entitlement in college students, and night terrors in premature infants. I have sponsored undergraduates in their research interests in an effort to encourage their growth and development, and in turn this has provided them with opportunities to present their findings at national conferences.

I received my Master’s degree in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling as well as my PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Southern California. I spent 6 years working with the Department of Children and Family Services as a treatment social worker and emergency response social worker. This work was very difficult, but rewarding at the same time. I learned the value of completing a thorough intake and built assessment skills that I transfer to my clinical practice. This has also provided me with a social work perspective in the field of clinical psychology.

I am very pleased to be teaching at UCLA’s extension program for the 5th year. I am looking forward to a great quarter class!
