Peggy Hock McCalley

I completed both my bachelor's and Ph.D. degrees in Psychology at Columbia University with an emphasis on the neurophysiology of the visual system. I completed the PPS program at San Jose State University and additional courses in educational therapy through UC Santa Cruz extension. I began my career teaching psychology at Dartmouth College and then moved to California for a research position in the Ophthalmology Department at Stanford University. My college counseling career began at Gunn High School in Palo Alto, where I worked as the College Information Specialist for two years. I was then the Director of College Counseling and Counseling Department Chair at Notre Dame High School in San Jose for 13 years. Following my retirement from Notre Dame High School, I served as the learning specialist/coordinator of disability services at Menlo College. I have worked as an independent educational consultant with McClure, Mallory & Baron for the past three years. I am a member of WACAC, NACAC, HECA and AHEAD. I was elected to serve a three year term as a WACAC delegate to the NACAC assembly and also served as on the WACAC board of directors as the chair of the technology committee. I have been a member of the College Board's editorial advisory board and I currently serve on the Fiske Guide editorial board. I am a frequent presenter at counselor conferences and workshops on topics including working with students with learning disabilities, helping students write essays, the WACAC Toolkit and supporting students for success in careers in science. I am currently a volunteer with the I Have a Dream foundation in San Francisco, supporting low income, underrepresented students in the college application process.
