In this course, we explore the deeper historical context behind Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the ongoing struggle for sovereignty, democracy, and regional stability. We examine the roots of Russian imperial ambition, the collapse of the Soviet Union, and Ukraine’s post-independence efforts to build a democratic society. Along the way, we consider key turning points in the conflict since 2022 and the global implications of a war that has reshaped the post–Cold War order.
