The All-Girl Bands of World War II
Osher (50+). In this course, we look back at the all-female orchestras of World War II.
About this course:
During the war years, nearly one hundred all-female orchestras staffed by young women aged 15-25 entertained troops and civilians at home and overseas. Best among them was the multi-ethnic International Sweethearts of Rhythm. This course celebrates a unique and largely forgotten moment in American culture by exploring the all-female ensembles of the war years in rare film footage, broadcasts, and newly available video clips. This course will be recorded. Students will have access to the video for 30 days.Summer 2025 Schedule
