What you can learn.

  • Make weekly progress on your novel, with a goal of doubling the length of your draft
  • Read and review other writers' drafts and get feedback on your own
  • Focus on refining characters, plot, and your own voice

About this course:

For those with a minimum of 50 pages of a novel-in-progress, this workshop guides you to generate at least 50 new pages, as well as learn essential self-editing techniques with the instructor and peers reviewing each participant's project in detail. Refinements of character, structure, emotional content and the development of the writer's voice are also explored. The goal is to produce a substantial portion of your novel.
Prerequisites

WRITING X 411.2 Novel II or comparable workshop experience.

Enrollment limited to 15 students; early enrollment advised. Visitors not permitted. Internet access required. Materials required. 

This online course is conducted through Canvas, a secure website that allows students to log in to access lectures, discussions, and other course materials on demand. There are no required live class meetings. Each course is structured with weekly assignments and deadlines. Lectures and coursework are accessible throughout the week. Workshops are conducted in writing via discussion boards with your instructor and classmates.
