- Explore new alternatives to traditional vehicle ingredients
- Identify the primary stages of product development: from an idea to the launch
- Get an overview of state and federal agencies regulating cosmetics, and the difference between drugs, cosmetics and cosmeceuticals; regulatory updates
- Review how and where to fact check ingredient information: fact or fallacy
- Review safety substantiation testing
About this course:
Beauty professionals from all genres and areas of expertise will find this course essential for understanding basic skincare ingredient technologies and U.S. regulations – regardless of scientific background. Starting with the concepts of natural, chemical, synthetic and organic, students will learn about the claims legally allowed for cosmetics and drugs in the U.S., how to read ingredient lists, and will receive an overview of basic ingredients used in skincare systems, including common sources and functions such as surfactants, emulsifiers, emollients, silicones, preservatives, colorants and fragrance. Clean beauty, greenwashing, green chemistry, safety substantiation and the Modernization of Cosmetics Regulations Act of 2022 will also be discussed. Suggested reading, blogs, websites, You Tube videos, tutorials and online courses will be suggested for students who are interested in continuing the learning processCorporate Education
