What you can learn.

  • Learn how to think and talk about diversity from multiple perspectives
  • Understand how students' familial and cultural resources can become part of their educational success
  • Examine how admissions policies affect higher education pathways for historically under-represented students

About this course:

Educators, researchers, students and other stakeholders in higher education are concerned with diversity, equity and inclusion.  While these topics are essential to understanding the experience of under-represented and minoritized students, it can be helpful to pause for a moment to ask ‘What does diversity mean?’   In this workshop, we will discuss what complex identities students and families bring to their higher education journeys and how their journeys are impacted. We will also address which types of diversity tend to be overlooked and the many forms diversity can take, with an emphasis on the interactions and intersections among multidimensional identities and success in higher education.
