Steve Burleigh

BA, independent college counselor, owner/president College Pathways LLC     I am owner and president of the Los Angeles independent college counseling firms College Pathways® and The College Transfer Guru. I am a member of the National Association of College Admission Counseling (NACAC), the Western Association of College Admission Counselors (WACAC), and the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA). I am committed to helping expand access to higher education and have volunteered at such programs as WACAC California Legislative Conference in Sacramento, StepUp Women's Network, Los Angeles Unified School District's Summer College Boot Camp, and several summers with College Summit. Prior to founding College Pathways I was an independent film and television producer. I am the recipient of the George Foster Peabody Award for Outstanding Television Programming, the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding TV Movie, and producer of a Humanitas Award winning film. My films have been official selections at several prestigious film festivals including Sundance (Official Opening Night Film), Tribeca, Chicago, Seattle, Nantucket, Hamptons, San Francisco, and Montreal First People's Film Festival. A few years ago, I combined my counseling and film backgrounds to create a series of informational videos on college transition issues, the first of which is "Admission Zen: The Stress Free Path to Getting Into College". I have a B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley, am a graduate of the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre (NYC), and received the Certificate in College Counseling from UCLA Extension. As someone who went through a career transition to independent educational consultant, and who subsequently took several UCLA online courses en route to my certificate, I'm familiar with some of the challenges you now face and hope to be a resource for you.  I’m a physical fitness nut and when I’m not working as an independent consultant you’ll find me at the gym or on the tennis court (doubles only these days). I attend live theatre regularly and usually spend a week in New York seeing shows.  I am also a playwright and active member of two small theatre companies in Los Angeles.  My wife and I have two grown married sons, and three grandchildren.
