Required seminars are designed to provide students with an understanding of: the basics of implant surgery; implant surface science, implant biomechanics; implant treatment planning; use of implants in partially edentulous and edentulous patients; and implants to restore single tooth defects. The implant surgery clinic provides the students with observation experiences of surgical implant placement and grafting procedures. Students will also observe clinical procedures performed in the advanced prosthodontics and maxillofacial prosthodontics clinic.This permits the student to become familiar with comprehensive clinical procedures of full mouth rehabilitation including fixed, removable and implant prosthodontics. Observation in the dental laboratory will permit students to become familiar with various laboratory diagnostic, preparatory, and prosthetic fabrication procedures. The will observe cases in various stage of treatment progress and discuss treatment with residents. Self- study lectures covering the basic principles of implant dentistry will provide students with additional study opportunities on the basic biology of osseointegration, terminology and components, and basic implant surgical procedures.
