Acting the Shakespearean Monologue

Osher (50+). This course allows students the opportunity to act one of William Shakespeare's monologues. Students do not need prior acting experience, only a passion for exploring Shakespeare's genius and a copy of a monologue.
About this course:
Some of the most compelling dramatic moments in Shakespeare’s plays are found in his characters' long speeches, or monologues. Some are spoken to other characters, some directly to the audience, and some (the soliloquies) express a character’s thoughts and feelings in a stream of consciousness talk with themselves. Shakespeare uses this dramatic device throughout all his plays—comedic and tragic—allowing us to see deeply into the minds and hearts of his vividly human characters. In this course, we study, practice and learn how to bring some of Shakespeare’s most powerful monologues to life and act them with the full power and beauty they possess. Open to everyone regardless of prior acting experience. Please bring a monologue or soliloquy that interests you to the first class. There are many sites online where you can find both humorous and serious monologues from Shakespeare’s plays.Contact Us
