About this course:

This aim of this course is to understand the historical context of Chinese-American relations since the Cold War Era up to the present day. This will start with an overview of the diplomatic history between the two nations focusing on key historic events that have shaped this relationship. The influence of Chinese culture on America and vice versa will also be explored as well as the role of immigration and the Chinese diaspora in the U.S. Other topics that will be explored and discussed will be major historical conflicts and cooperation, Nixon's visit and the opening up of diplomatic relations, geopolitical tensions, territorial disputes and military rivalry, human rights and international criticisms, the Taiwan question, the Belt and Road Initiative and its global impact and bilateral trade.
