Required Application Materials
The CSU application for graduate admissions can be found at https://www.calstate.edu/apply. For more details, please review the below information and refer to Cal State Apply Program Materials guide.
Please note that you must forward a copy of your completed application to UCLA Extension. Details are below.
Due to the program being fully online, applicants from outside the United States should note that Cal Poly Pomona cannot sponsor the F-1 Visa for international students enrolled in the Online MIA program.
Final official transcripts from each of your schools (including UCLA Extension) will be due to Cal Poly Pomona as indicted on your Bronco Direct account "to-do" list.

Cal Poly Pomona is requesting that your send your final official transcripts electronically.
If your sending institution does not offer electronic transcripts, we recommend using the following services:

Note: do not open physical copies of transcripts, otherwise they will be considered unofficial and we will not be able to accept them. Allow 2 weeks for transcripts to be processed and reflected on your “to-do” list.
Explain your interests, motivations and goals in pursuing a professional degree. This should not exceed 750 words. Upload a PDF copy in the “Program Materials” section of the application.
Three (3) letters of recommendation are required and should be submitted by individuals in a position to assess your potential in the interior design profession or in a Master’s level academic program.
All recommendations must be submitted electronically using the portal in the application.
It is your responsibility to ensure that recommendation requests are received and completed on time. Applicants will not be notified about missing recommendations. Failure to receive three complete letters will prevent you from submitting your application.

Your portfolio must include visual work illustrating your creative or analytical abilities in written, graphic, or mathematical form.
Upload a PDF copy in the “Program Materials” section of the application.
Please note that the portfolio cannot be larger than 15 megabytes.
All graduate and postbaccalaureate applicants, regardless of citizenship, whose preparatory education at the postsecondary level was principally in a language other than English, must demonstrate competence in English.
Required scores and exams accepted are:
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): 80 iBT
- TOEFL iBT Home Edition and MyBest scores accepted: 80 iBT
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS): 6.5
- Duolingo English Test*: 105
English Proficiency Waiver
Exempt countries where English is the national language include: Antigua, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Botswana, Canada (except Québec), Ghana, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Kenya, New Zealand, Nigeria, Scotland, South Africa, Trinidad, the United Kingdom, the United States, Virgin Islands and Wales.
You may also be waived if you meet one of the following:
- If you possess a bachelor’s degree from a postsecondary institution where English is the principal language of instruction
- If you have studied at least 3 years of full‐time enrollment at a college/university where English is the principal language of instruction
Upload a copy of your score in the “Program Materials” section of the application.
For TOEFL scores, you must contact ETS to have your official TOEFL score released. Paper copies are not accepted. The code needed for ETS to send your score to Cal Poly Pomona is 4082.
Note: scores cannot be more than two years old.
COVID-19 Update
Due to cancellations of in-person testing worldwide as a result of COVID-19, Cal Poly Pomona has approved the temporary use of the Duolingo test. The Duolingo test can be taken in lieu of the TOEFL or IELTS for Fall 2022.
A $70* non-refundable filing fee must be paid at the time of application submission.
Payments are accepted by credit card or PayPal.

To download a copy of your completed application, login to Cal State Apply and select the “Check Status” tab. You will see a download application (pdf) icon.
